| BELLAGIO’S HISTORICAL SNIPPETS |
On 6 December 1493, 30 splendidly decorated boats and 2 brigs were used to transport all the guests to the wedding celebrations held in honour of Bianca Maria Sforza (Ludovico il Moro’s niece) and the Emperor, Maximillian I. At the end of the 18th century, Alessandro Serbelloni spent more than 929,62 Euros on improvements to the park of his villa – the average working man’s daily wage at the time was less than a hundredth of a Euro! During the 19th century, many aristocrats often rented the entire floors of their hotels in Bellagio – some of the rooms were used just for laying out their clothes! Senator Gary Hart was so struck by Bellagio during his stay here that he used the setting for a spy-story in which a secret agent lodged in a Bellagio hotel. American prime builder, Steve Wynn built an impressive Hotel Casino in Las Vegas and gave it the name “Bellagio”. He declared it the most romantic hotel in the world. The hotel has 37 floors, 3,421 rooms, 521 suites and approximately 8,000 employees. The vast complex covers an area of 83 hectares. It has an artificial lake with fountains, ten gardens and a “village” resembling Bellagio, with small boutiques and shops. Natives of Bellagio are: 6 World Rowing Champions: Alberto Belgeri, Enrico Gandola, Igor Pescialli, Franco Sancassani, Daniele Gilardoni and Elisabetta Sancassani. Elisabetta took part in the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. 1 European Water-skiing (speed) Champion: David Conti 1 European Champion of American Football: Giacomo Cranchi (“Pacio”). 1 European Champion of Beach Volley: Laura Bruschini. |
