How to get to Bellagio

Bellagio is located in a privileged position in the middle of Lake Como and can be easily reached by both public and private transport. Below you will find useful information to reach Bellagio from different locations and airports.
The following fact sheet has been compiled by Promobellagio as a guideline only. All the information provided is correct at the time of writing but may be subject to change without notice. The times of first/last buses/ferries and their frequency as indicated below are to be considered as a guideline only and we strongly recommend consulting all the links provided for updated timetables. 
Promobellagio cannot deal with individual queries regarding transport schedules which are subject to variation according to the day of the week / time of year.

• FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT:

A) TRAIN TO COMO:

Step 1 – Milan Malpensa / Saronno or Milano Cadorna
“Malpensa Express” is a train leaving from Malpensa Terminal 1 (below the Ground Floor / Arrivals area) to Milano Cadorna. Purchase your ticket to Como Lago.
Frequency: approximately every 30 minutes
Journey time from Malpensa to Saronno: 17 minutes. From Malpensa to Milano Cadorna: 29 minutes
Cost of ticket: € 13.00 through Milan and € 8.00 through Saronno from airport to Como
Step 2 – Saronno- Milano Cadorna / Como
Change trains at SARONNO or MILANO CADORNA
Frequency: Connecting trains to Como every hour
Journey time from Saronno to Como: 39 minutes;journey time from Milano Cadorna to Como: 50 minutes
Cost of ticket: Saronno/Como € 2.90/4.00, Milano Cadorna/Como € 4.80
Step 3 – Como / Bellagio
There are different travel options to get to Bellagio from Como Lago Nord railway station:
a) Bus (easiest & cheapest)
Buses depart just outside the train station. Use the exit toward the lakeside and you find the bus stop at your left.
Tickets from the bus station ticket office.
Frequency: approximately every two hours
Journey time to Bellagio: 1 hour and 10 minutes
Cost of ticket: € 3,70
Bus stop in Bellagio is on the lake, the closer to the centre is near the car ferry landing stage.
b) Boat or Hydrofoil: (hydrofoil is the quickest means of lake transport)
5 minutes walk to the lakefront and boat ticket office (Cross the road to the lake opposite the station and turn left). Tickets to be purchased prior to boarding.
Hydrofoil->Frequency: Every two hours – they are more frequent at lunchtime and early evening
Journey time: 45/50 minutes – Cost of ticket: € 14,80 per person
Boat->Frequency: Infrequent service – Journey time: 2 hours- Cost of ticket: € 10,40 per person
c) Taxi: You can book a taxi from Bellagio which will meet you at the arrival platform in the station. See above for details about companies for private car transfer.

B) SHUTTLE BUS FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT TO MILANO CENTRAL STATION

Step 1 – Autostradale bus to Milan Central Station – tickets on board
Frequency: Every 20 minutes
Journey time: 60 minutes

Step 2 – Milan Central Station / Varenna:
The bus stops at Milan Central Station from where there are train services to Varenna (on the eastern coastline, opposite Bellagio). * Please note that the final destination of the train is indicated and not the intermediate stops. For trains to Lecco and Varenna the final destination is Sondrio or Tirano.
Frequency: Trains from Milan to Lecco and Varenna approx. every 2 hours
Journey time: approx. 1 hour 03 minutes
Cost of ticket: € 6,70 2nd class per person
2B – If you decide to get off at Lecco you can take a bus or a boat to Bellagio.
The buses to Bellagio leave from outside the railway station. The journey lasts about 50/60 minutes: Unfortunately the service is not very frequent.
Cost of the ticket: 2,80 euro per person.
N.B In the summer there are a couple of boats from Lecco to Bellagio.
The journey lasts about 1hr and 15 min.
From the railway station to the boat landing is about 15 min walk.
Taxis always available outside the railway station.
Step 3 – Varenna / Bellagio:
From Varenna to Bellagio, exit the station and either take a taxi to the boat landing stage (approx. cost €10) or turn left and walk down the numerous steps to the road at the bottom. To avoid steps you can follow the normal road. Turn right until you come to a crossroads (there’s a bar on the right hand corner). Turn left and cross the road – you are now on the main road. Take the immediate right hand turning and walk down towards the lake. At the bottom, turn left and you’ll see the boat ticket office on the right. It will take max 15 min. on foot.
There is a choice of either boats or car ferries from Varenna to Bellagio – both are 15 minute crossings and the only difference is the different point of arrival in Bellagio. The ferry and boat landing stages in Bellagio are within a 5 minute walk of each other right in the centre of the historical part of the town.

Journey time: 15 minutes – Cost of ticket: € 4,60 per person

• FROM LINATE AIRPORT

Step 1 – Linate / Milan Central Station:
Starfly Bus to Milan Central Station – tickets on board
Frequency: Every 30 minutes
Journey time: 30 minutes

• FROM BERGAMO-ORIO AL SERIO AIRPORT

Step 1 – Bergamo airport / Bergamo railway station
Shuttle Buses for Bergamo railway station depart from outside the Arrivals Terminal. Tickets to be purchased at the Bergamo Tourist office inside the terminal, at Autostradale office and at ticket machine. The bus stops at the railway station.
Frequency: Every 30 minutes
Journey time: 15/20 minutes. Cost of ticket: € 2,30
Step 2 – Bergamo Station / Lecco
Tickets to Lecco to be purchased at the ticket office and validated in the yellow machines at the end of the platform or near the ticket office
Cost of ticket: € 3,60
Step 3 – Lecco / Bellagio
The buses to Bellagio leave from outside the railway station. The journey lasts about 50/60 minutes: Unfortunately the service is not very frequent.
Cost of the ticket: 2,80 euro per person.

Step 4 – Lecco / Varenna
If you decide to go from Bergamo to Varenna, buy the ticket to Varenna at the Bergamo railway station. Change train at Lecco (use underground passageway – it is prohibited to cross on the railway tracks) and await connecting train to Varenna.
Cost of the ticket (from Bergamo to Varenna) : 5,55 per person.
Step 5 – Varenna / Bellagio:
From Varenna to Bellagio, exit the station and either take a taxi to the boat landing stage (approx. cost €10) or turn left and walk down the numerous steps to the road at the bottom. To avoid steps you can follow the normal road. Turn right until you come to a crossroads (there’s a bar on the right hand corner). Turn left and cross the road – you are now on the main road. • FROM MILAN NORD CADORNA STATION

A) TRAIN TO ASSO
Step 1:
Train from Milan Nord – Cadorna to Asso
Frequency about every hour.
Journey time: 1 hour and 18 min.
Cost of ticket: €5.50 per person 2nd class
Step 2:
Bus service from Asso to Bellagio
Tickets at the café next door the railway station
Price of the ticket € 3.00
2 buses a day during winter and 3 during summer.

B) TRAIN TO COMO
Step 1: Milan Nord – Cadorna / Como
Train from Milan Nord – Cadorna to Como
Frequency about every 30/40 min. Journey time: 63-74 min.
Cost of the ticket: € 4,80 per person

FROM LUGANO-AGNO AIRPORT OR LUGANO DOWNTOWN

Shuttle bus service from the Airport Lugano Agno to Lugano downtown. The service is not very frequent, you can find information on: www.shuttle-bus.com tel. 0041.79.2214243.
From Lugano there is a bus service to Menaggio and from Menaggio a boat service to Bellagio.

• WITH YOUR OWN CAR OR BY HIRE CAR:

  • FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT: Leave the airport – Follow green signs for MILANO – After approx. 14 km take the exit for the A8 (direction Milano – follow the green signs). Leave the A8 to join the A9, direction COMO/CHIASSO. Leave the motorway at the COMO SUD exit. Follow signs for the centre (CENTRO) of Como and then the road to the lake for 32 km to Bellagio.
  • FROM LINATE AIRPORT: Leave the airport – Follow signs for MILANO. You will come to a  four-lane road. Keep to the right and exit at VIMERCATE/LECCO/VENEZIA/TANGENZIALE EST. Follow the highway for around 15 minutes. At the toll booth, follow signs for LECCO – Continue straight and stay on the main roadto Lecco. Don’t cross any bridges towards the town of Lecco. At the large roundabout, take the second on your right and follow the road to the lake for 21 km to Bellagio.
  • FROM BERGAMO ORIO AL SERIO AIRPORT Leave the airport. Follow signs for AUTOSTRADA – MILANO – LECCO on the right. Keep driving direction LECCO on a two-lane road for 23 km. At the end of the two – lane road follow signs for LECCO. At the roundabout located after the rail crossing take first exit – After 6 km at the roundabout take the second exit, crossing the bridge direction OLGINATE. Keep driving on the main road to LECCO. Don’t cross any bridges towards the town of Lecco. At the large roundabout, take the second on your right and follow the road along the lake for 21 km to Bellagio (lake will be on your right hand side).
IMPORTANT: 
Train tickets must always be purchased before travel. You must stamp your tickets in the yellow machines usually to be found at the end of the platform. During your journey, an inspector will check your tickets and if you are found without a ticket or an unstamped ticket, you will be fined.
